From the smallest details or questions about unusual car related things, Steve blows my mind with his detective skills.

I mentioned yesterday when I posted this radio, that I'd never heard of the Al Davis radio company, and found this to be the only example of one I've ever come across...

And that made Steve ponder, perhaps. Or, he realized it had been a while since he'd rearranged my brain... so he did it again. He blew my mind. For the umpteenth time. Great guy!

It turns out that Al Davis was a car radio installation guy, who made a company out of it, and in the same type of business as Mad Man Muntz he was a success. He had a good enough business or location that Rock Hudson (big celebrity in movies and tv, and the first hollywood star to die of aids) was a customer in 1963

How in the world Steve does that, I'll never know. I Googled Al Davis, and all that came up was the LA Raiders past owner. I even tried AL Davis AM car radio. Nothing.

Someone stole Dr Phils 57 Chev from a Burbank repair shop

TV host Phil McGraw's '57 Chevy, which was stolen from a repair shop in Burbank.

 McGraw, who's known to many as simply 'Dr. Phil,' was driving the car on Sunday when it broke down. The car was towed to RODZ Fabrication Co. in the 2800 block of North Lincoln Street in Burbank.

 The theft is believed to have taken place around midnight on Sunday when a burglar alarm was tripped, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

 Investigators believe the thieves cut the lock to the secured gate then pried open a metal roll-up gate, Ryburn said. Dr. Phil received a call that his classic car had been stolen several hours after the theft, according to TMZ.

 Police are now working to recover the vintage ride, which is worth about $100,000.

This was at one time a beautiful automobile, resplendant in metallic silver paint over red leather, with a screaming 3.0-liter Ferrari V-12 up front and gleaming Borrani wire wheels on its suspension. The car has been sitting for decades, but appeared very complete and whole, which adds considerable to its value and appeal.

 Bonhams sold the car for about $163,000, and it will take every penny of $100,000 to restore it properly and make it once again the beautiful automobile it deserves to be. When completed, it’ll probably be worth about that same $100,000, perhaps a little more, placing, for the moment, no value on its celbrity ownership. Hmmmm….unless I were the late director’s close relative, I’m not sure having his $100,000 car would be worth $263,000 to me.

in the following video you see most of the Batmobiles getting staged downtown San Diego for the short 10 block drive to the convention center where they were displayed during Comic Con. The amazing part is that it was at a wide open public area where no ticket or pass was required.

they all got together at the Burbank area Bob's Big Boy partly because of a Make a Wish foundation situation, and partly for the upcoming documentary I mentioned in the beginning of this post. I think that driving these on public roads is likely a thrill for the owers who bought cars that aren't street legal (headlights, tail lights, bumpers, smog, etc etc here in California) and rarely get to drive them... plus to get to drive them with other Batmobiles, that has to be a cool feeling.
